The role sincere supplication plays in the acceptance of Du’a

Supplication, Dua, is something that between those who partake in Charity Week and our beneficiaries, connects us together. But aside from what we maybe asking for, this reminder will unlock what it truly means to make a sincere supplication.

So, what does it mean to make a sincere dua? how do we make dua in a way that we are guaranteed an answer from Allah? And why is Allah not answering my dua?

These are just some of the questions that run past our minds sometimes and often we tend to forget who exactly we are asking from and forget His magnificent qualities.

If you think about asking for a favour from a person, generally there is a limit to how many times we can ask. There comes a point where if you constantly ask for a favour, the person will be somewhat annoyed and eventually be put off from responding to you completely.

But dua, a sincere supplication to Allah is completely different. Allah loves to hear your voice call out to Him not only in the bad times but in the good times. Not only does your praise and thanks to Him bring you closer to Allah, but actually you asking from Him (for anything) brings you closer to Him. What an amazing Lord we have to ask from, the more you ask, the more He loves and the more He gives.

What does Allah say about when we call upon him?

In Surah al Baqarah verse 186 Allah says:

‘And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided’

And usually this verse is recited to us in the context that Allah will answer our dua when we call out to Him.

But if you focus on the first line of the ayah Allah says just by calling out to Him, that He comes close to us. And Subhan’Allah this in itself is a huge blessing that comes from simply calling out to Allah and the greatest gift that can be given to anyone as a result of making dua – the closeness you feel to your lord – which alone comforts the heart, provides security and serenity.

In part 2, we will cover how Allah answers our duas!
